Why Investing in Yourself Matters for Your Business

So you own a business. Yay! That automatically makes you pretty awesome (dare we say it, a superhuman!) Business ownership is not for the faint of heart, and it definitely comes with many sacrifices that other employees may just never understand.

That being said, in order for you to BEST run your business, at whatever capacity, we firmly believe that YOU have to be your best self. You have to be running at prime condition, be feeling your best, and have the right people in your corner to support you. Is this even possible though?

We absolutely believe you can be your best self and run your business to perfection, despite experiencing the typical ups and downs of business ownership. The trick is to recognize that you have to INVEST in yourself in order for your business to succeed. Your well-being matters THE MOST!

So while you could invest in your business by purchasing new equipment, hiring a new staff member, or expanding your product line, that’s not what this conversation is about today. We’re going to talk about ways to invest in YOURSELF that have the greatest impact on your business.

Ways to Invest in YOU (and see the greatest ROI in your business)

1. Prioritize Your Physical Health

Did you know we were going to list this one first? Sorry sister, but it’s true! Your physical health is incredibly important for the success of your business! In order to keep up with the demands of your business, have energy for meetings or appointments, and make decisions with clarity, you need to prioritize good health habits, such as daily exercise (doesn’t have to be tons!), proper nutrition (a treat or two here or there won’t kill you!), and adequate sleep.

Have you ever thought about having poor physical health could actually COST your business money? It’s true! If your physical health is not prioritized, you could experience more sick days. You could need more doctors appointments or have to miss work for treatment. Poor health could slow you down, cause errors, or even spread sickness around your business and cause even more employees to be sick.

Don’t avoid prioritizing your physical health because it doesn’t seem important. It is incredibly important and will impact your business greatly!

2. Set Realistic Goals & Rewards for Reaching Them

We are definitely not above bribery in almost any instance, but when it comes to business goals, it’s one of our favorite things! We believe that setting a goal AND a reward for reaching that goal will help us reach that goal faster and with improved results. We are all motivated by different things, but this is an investment in yourself that provides excitement and fulfillment that further impacts your business!

Your rewards don’t have to be fancy or lavish all of the time (although you can choose to make some big rewards for yourself!) but it will always benefit your mental state and determination throughout your business efforts to have a concrete goal you are looking to achieve and a prize for your efforts.

Some of our favorite rewards for reaching business goals are:

  1. Lunch for the whole company

  2. Gift card to a store of our choice

  3. A vacation to a new place

  4. A new home decor item or furniture

  5. A day off to do whatever we place!

3. Take a Break to Recharge

We know how hard it is to step away from your baby, but it is absolutely essential in order to avoid burnout. You work SO hard already, and your hours are rarely 9 - 5 like traditional employees. Which is why taking a break from the office or your desk is important for your own well-being.

While it may be challenging to coordinate or simply seem impossible with everything you have on your to-do list, you can always take a few hours to a few days to recenter and recharge. The most important thing is that you fully disconnect and turn your business brain OFF in order to recharge physically, emotionally, and mentally.

The benefits to taking a break from running your business are tremendous! You can focus on other hobbies or interests, maintain important relationships, improve your physical health, and even discover new ways to make your business better (as long as that’s not the focus while you’re on a break!) When you come back recharged and with renewed energy and excitement for your business, you will undoubtedly be able to apply that feeling to improving your business in the best ways.

When it comes to your business, you matter the absolute most. Your business won’t be able to progress without its owner being her best self!

Take it from us and understand that investing in YOU means investing in your business. Prioritize your physical health, give yourself rewards, and take adequate breaks to ensure that you are the happiest, healthiest version of you that you can be. Your business will thank you for it!
